International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2024

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is celebrated on 11 February every year. To mark this special occasion, three female employees of METAS were asked why they work in science and how they experience the scientific environment as women. One statement was that women in the scientific environment are unfortunately still often not taken seriously.

“Diversity and complexity: that’s why I work in science as a woman.”

“Girls and women should work in science because it is exciting.”

“Microtechnology is a varied and broad field of study.”

Offers of METAS

In order to change this and increase the proportion of women in science, the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology METAS offers various apprenticeships and introductory placements for female scientists interested in metrology. Part-time jobs also allow women with children to make a valuable contribution to the professional world.

Objective of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science is a reminder of the crucial role that girls and women play in science and raises awareness of the need to facilitate access to technology and science education. In addition, the commemoration day is also intended to arouse their interest in mathematics, information technology, science and technology.
